[edit] Latitude and Longitude
Google maps code tends to use x,y but the actual names for x,y coordinates of the earth are Latitude and Longitude
- Longitude (Lon, Long, or Lng):
- The "x" axis of the earth. The origin (0) runs north/south through Greenwich (London, England, UK). Positive is East, Negative is West. The origin is also called the Prime Meridian.
- Latitude (Lat):
- The "y" axis of the earth. The origin (0) is the equator. Positive is North, Negative is South.
